Happy New Year!
It has been wonderful welcoming all the children back and seeing them settle into our classroom routines. This term we have begun giving out lots of class dojo points already by following our school rules of being safe, ready and respectful throughout the school day: on our way as a class to achieve our next collective milestone of earning our silver class dojo awards.
So far this term, we have started in English by exploring the short story, Undertow, from Shaun Tan’s ‘Tales from Outer Suburbia’. We will look at the features of what makes an effective and concise story for an intended audience to enjoy. This will be an exciting explorative journey working towards writing our own short stories of a mysterious nature.
As mathematicians, we will begin by focusing on multiplication and division. All children should be concentrating and working hard to know their times tables up to 12 x 12 consistently. In maths we are using the scheme, Power Maths, which builds in small steps to deepen our mathematical understanding.
We have commenced our journey using our enquiry skills in humanities to look at our spring topic Ancient Romans and during RE, we will begin by focusing on our local Church and the community we live in. I am looking forward to seeing the children develop their enquiry skills over the next coming weeks.
All children have been shown and engaged with Google Classroom in the Autumn term. Therefore, I will continue to use this platform to set weekly homework tasks for all the children to engage with.
Thank you to everyone for your continued help in supporting the children’s learning. I am very excited to be teaching the children this term and hope you are looking forward to hearing about our learning and seeing some of the amazing work we produce.
Many thanks,
Miss Rustell and The Kingfisher Team
